New project finance partner
25 January 2010
International law firm Stephenson Harwood has grown its finance team by hiring Nick Avery as a Project Finance Partner. This latest recruitment to the finance practice follows the appointment of partners Graeme McLellan from Pinsent Masons and Richard Parsons from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in October last year.
Nick has recently spent 12 years as a partner at Ashurst LLP in the Energy Transport and Infrastructure Department. He trained at Clifford Chance, qualifying in the Banking Department in 1989 and worked in both their London and New York offices. At Ashurst he acted on many of the most significant projects undertaken across a range of sectors. This included leading the team advising the funders on the London Underground PPP (the largest project financing closed anywhere in the world in 2003), advising Cory Environmental on the funding of its Riverside Energy from Waste Facility and advising Transport for London and Docklands Light Railway on a series of innovative financings. In addition to building up a successful project finance practice, he also held a range of management roles within Ashurst. Nick was the firm's Training Principal from 2003 to 2008 with responsibility for around 90 trainees and a similar number of graduates each year. From 2006 to 2008 he also served on the firm's London Managing Partners committee.
Mark Russell, Head of Finance at Stephenson Harwood commented: "Our strategy is to continue to grow our finance practice to be able to provide a consistently high quality of service to our existing and prospective clients. We are delighted to have Nick on board as he has extensive project finance experience at the forefront of the transportation and infrastructure finance market."
Nick Avery added; "Stephenson Harwood has a well-established finance team with a strong reputation for high quality work. This is a very exciting opportunity and provides an excellent platform for me to further develop the project finance practice."
Stephenson Harwood's finance practice operates as a global practice with a total team strength of over eighty specialists based across the key asset finance hubs in Europe and Asia.
