The New Silk Road
Welcome to issue 06 of The New Silk Road - Stephenson Harwood's international client magazine
Welcome to a special edition of The New Silk Road Stephenson Harwood's international client magazine celebrating 30 years of the firm in Asia. Our pioneering first office opened in the region in Hong Kong in 1979. Since then we have stayed the course and grown alongside our clients giving us a depth of understanding and a longevity of perspective that we celebrate in this special edition.
You may be wondering why Stephenson Harwood produces a magazine about the New Silk Road. After all, we’re a law firm, not a business publisher. The answer lies in the international nature of our client base. A typical deal or dispute for that matter might be taking place in a 'Stan', with a Malaysian buyer, an Indian joint venture partner, using finance from the Gulf - transacted under English law. Hence our interest in understanding and following The New Silk Road and sharing our findings and insights with others who’ll find them stimulating.
In addition to highlighting the scale of trade along the New Silk Road, we aim to give an inside track on its sheer diversity: who’s rising, who’s falling, who’s betting how much on what - as well as exploring some of the broader cultural and geopolitical questions along this metaphorical roadway. And of course, there are a few eye-opening anecdotes thrown in too.
The New Silk Road is published three times a year - subscribe now to receive your regular copy
